On January 2, 2023, at ~4:25 AM ET, Microsoft messaged from their service status Twitter account @MSFT365status that they were investigating an issue in which some users were unable to access or open files from OneDrive.
Despite not mentioning "OneDrive" specifically in this message, the link Microsoft provided in the tweet pointed to onedrive.live.com. Expanded information was provided in the Microsoft Admin Center under service incident number OC494006.

Several minutes later, Microsoft also sent this brief message which advised users, who may not have Microsoft Admin Center access, to also check and monitor the situation via the service status website portal.office.com/servicestatus. However, no additional information as to the service incident or to its cause/remediation was mentioned in the tweet.

Approximately 4 hours from their first message for OC494006, Microsoft then tweeted this final message as to the OneDrive service incident. A recent change to an app which regulates access to OneDrive was impacting the service. Microsoft additionally confirmed a fix had been applied and that any and all service impacts were remediated.
We’ve determined that a recently enabled change within a specific app responsible for regulating access to the service is causing impact. We’ve applied a fix to correct the aforementioned value, and confirmed following an extended monitoring period that impact is remediated.
